Tourism & Peace: Fostering Cultural Dialogue, Sustainable Heritage & Community Prosperity

World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on September 27 to raise awareness about the importance of tourism and its impact worldwide. The day highlights the social, cultural, political, and economic value of tourism, while also shedding light on the challenges and opportunities in the sector.
Over the years, the Ministry of Tourism has marked the occasion with various activities aimed at raising awareness about the tourism sector, celebrating Ethiopia’s tourism wonders, and promoting a culture of travel among citizens.
From September 19 – 23, 2025 the Ministry will celebrate the day in the Central Ethiopia through a series of events and activities, including visits to selected tourist sites in the region, local New Year and Meskel festivities, panel discussions, a photo exhibition, a bazaar, and more.
